Balut (AKA Duck Embryo!) Eating Contest Coming To Brooklyn
We’ve watched enough episodes of Bizarre Foods to know what a popular street snack duck embryos are in The Philippines. Andrew Zimmern probably puts away at least half a dozen in one cart crawl through Manila. And now, Brooklyners can show off their own Bizarre Food capacity! If Coney Island hot dog-eating contests turn your stomach, what about balut eating contests?
Maharlika Filipino Moderno has a brick-and-mortar location in Manhattan, but it’s sponsoring a balut-eating contest out of its stand in the DeKalb Market. Adventurous New Yorkers can sign up to see how many duck fetuses they can knock back on August 23rd at 3pm. Thus far, only two people are signed up…
But don’t you want to get in on the action? It tastes like chicken! Slimy, gamey chicken! And don’t forget about making a small hole in the egg to sip out the embryonic fluid first. Because that’s important and delicious.
Any takers? You can find out more info on how to sign up here. You can find out how to recover by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.
