Bobby Deen Is His Mother’s Handsome, Healthier, Neurotic Alter Ego
While plenty of people (and by that we totally mean Anthony Bourdain) make a healthy living blowing up at Paula Deen’s unhealthy Southern living, she’s taking it in stride, according to the New York Post. But her son Bobby Deen, worrying that oh my god Mom is being so uncool and I can’t believe she’s still eating butter omigod the cool kids are gonna think I’m a fat dork, admitted to the paper:
“I take it very, very personally. In fact, I wear the stuff,” he admits, when asked about how he’s weathered the criticism of his mother Paula Deen’s controversial diabetes revelation and subsequent drug endorsement deal last winter.
By contrast, he says Paula is showing her usual resilience and optimism. He envies her ability not to take herself too seriously all of the time.
That’s why his Food Network show, Not My Mama’s Meals, showed him retooling his mother’s legendarily BUDDURR filled recipes with healthier alternatives.
Though, to be fair, Bobby has a bit of a life-or-death reason to be concerned about how his mom is perceived: his grandfather died of heart failure in his early 40s (Bobby is 42 and, as a preventative measure, has built the finest biceps and abs we’ve seen on the Food Network), and he was aware of his mother’s diabetes diagnosis throughout the production of the first season of his show.
BTW: Totally Not Gay. He swears.
