The 9 Best Chefs To Follow On Instagram

So we were trying to get a list up of the best Instagram accounts run by celebrity chefs. It would have the best celebrity chefs giving us little people unfiltered glimpses into their lives! It was going to be fifty times better than the one that Bon Appetit did! We were going to avoid the hipsters who want to tell everyone that they went to this food truck or that hole-in-the-wall ethnic place!

And we failed pretty hard.

Most of it may have to do with the dearth of celebrity chefs who are actually on Instagram, given that it’s a relatively new technology (in real world time, not internet time) and that many are still on easily-accessible blogs or tumblrs. Maybe chefs think that tons of filters really don’t do justice to food photos.

Nevertheless, there will always be people who love jumping all over the Shiny New Thing Facebook Bought, so there had to be some chefs who like photography. Here are the… nine? Yup, nine. Here are the nine chef/chef-related accounts that we found. If we missed a few… blame Blackberry, it’s the popular thing to do.

1.April Bloomfield, @aprilbloomfield

Follow April because she loves simple ingredients and takes photos of the ones she loves the best. Also follow her because she wants to marry this pig (figuratively speaking.)

2.Food Republic, @foodrepublic

Occasionally, Food Republic lends its instagram account to interesting people in the food world for a week, and shares the results. In the past, the guest 'grammers have included Tom Colicchio and Stephanie Izard.

3.Jamie Oliver, @jamieoliver

The @justinbieber of Instagram, Jamie's Instagram not only has gratuitous food porn, but also nerdy things (like a Darth Vader helmet), witty photos, and lots of kids. AKA, everything I like in life.

4.Jean-Georges Vongerichten, @chefjgv

He only started Instagramming last week, but it's not every day that an international uber-chef snaps candid photos of his glamorous everyday life.

5.Marcus Samuelsson, @marcuscooks

Samuelsson's interests range far outside the culinary world, and that means he instagrams them: street dancers, jazz musicians, old basketball players, and modern art.

6.Matthew Jennings, @matthewjennings

Probably the most Instagramming chef out there with 800+ photos, Jennings is known for bantering with other chefs about their recipes over the network.

7.Sarah Simmons, @citygrit

CityGrit is less a restaurant and more a culinary salon, where Simmons invites chefs from around the country to cook and serve dinner in a Nolita loft. Her account highlights the constantly-changing menus and cuisines.

8.Tom Colicchio, @tcolic

Apparently Tom Colicchio had so much fun instagramming at Food Republic that he got his own! Follow because it's Tom Colicchio doing things! Duh.

9.Andrew Zimmern

Andrew Zimmern travels the world, makes television, eats food, meets people, hangs out with kids, and instagrams them all. Not a bad life.

There is no “@” before the username on instagram. That’s twitter.
if you search for a user with the “@” it will say user not found.
