Eddie Huang Gets Sitcom Deal With ABC

Remember the days when Eddie Huang was just a sandwich dude with a hilarious blog, and not a massive media juggernaut with MTV shows and Top Chef appearances? We know, we can’t believe that he blew up over the past year, either. O, Time, how things doth change with thine presence — like how Huang now has a sitcom deal with ABC Entertainment to turn his memoir, Fresh Off The Boat, into a sitcom. (Hah! Take that, NBC, which was in talks to buy Huang’s pilot! Why you gotta suck so bad, NBC?)

Deadline reports that Don’t Trust The B— creator and first-generation American Nahnatchka Khan will be writing/executive producing the pilot, along with co-executive producer Jake Kasdan, essentially making this pilot FOB heaven: according to Deadline, Fresh Off The Boat “is set in the ’90s and revolves around a Chinese family that moves to Orlando.”

Now, we know what you’re thinking: how committed is a major network towards writing a major television series…about the 90’s? Apparently, committed enough to send this sweet basket full of Lunchables and Biggie Smalls lyrics to Huang upon closing their deal last night (straight from Huang’s Instagram):

In case you can’t read the card, here’s what it says:

“Believe me sweety
I got enough to feed the needy
No need to be greedy
I got mad friends with Benz’s
C-notes by the layers, true fuckin players
Jump in the Rover and come over”
–“Big Poppa,” 1994

Congratulations Eddie, and also congratulations for getting the company owned by the Walt Disney Corporation to drop the f-bomb.
