WATCH: NYC Chefs Join Forces To Save Historic Fish Market

Many of New York City’s top chefs — Daniel Boulud, April Bloomfield, Bill Telepan, and others — have joined forces to save the buildings in the Old Fulton Fish Market, which the City and private developers currently plan on tearing down.
Joining forces with the New Amsterdam market, which operates a market in the current space, the Save Our Seaport group hopes to persuade the City Council to preserve the public marketplace as is, instead of redeveloping it into…something. Seriously: according to Crain’s New York, the Howard Hughes Group, which is making a bid for the space, has been tight-lipped as to its plans.)
The chefs, however, do have a concrete plan. In the video below, ten of the city’s best chefs (including the ones above) lay out their vision for the current marketplace, since the Fish Market itself moved to the Bronx years ago: they hope to see the current buildings “transformed into a food bazaar where they could shop for their restaurants and the public could shop, too,” per the Crain’s story.
