Tonight In Food TV: Hannibal Premieres, Jose Andres Styles Cannibal Food
It’s rare that we anticipate scripted network series premieres with such bated breath, but Hannibal is an exception. Reasons include: Laurence Fishburne, Hugh Dancy potentially replacing Dr. Spencer Reid as our favorite shaggy, brooding FBI agent on TV (JOKES!), and, of course, the much-hyped return of Gillian Anderson to network primetime. Fun fact: Did you know that Gillian Anderson was supposed to play the role of Clarice instead of Jodie Foster in the 1997 Silence of the Lambs, but couldn’t, because a clause in her X-Files contract with Fox forbade her from appearing as an FBI agent anywhere else on film or TV? Suck on that, execs. Homegirl’s back, and we can’t wait to start lusting after her hair on a weekly basis again.
Oh yeah, and then there’s the food. Jose Andres is, of course, the series’ culinary consultant, whom producer Bryan Fuller has brought on to, as we once put it, teach Hannibal Lecter how to pair liver with chianti.
Check out a sneak peek below. As you can imagine, it’s fucking graphic. The upside is the food shots are actually nice. We acknowledge that this is weird because that delicious-looking gravy is supposed to be made of blood. People blood. We’re probably going to have a lot of mixed feelings about the series every week. Please stay tuned.
