This Inaugural Cake From Duff Goldman Literally Tastes Like ‘Freedom’
Last night, amidst Michelle Obama’s Jason Wu sparklydress and Joe Biden’s glittering diamond grin, one creation stood out and towered above the rest: Duff Goldman’s cake for the Commander-in-Chief’s Inaugural Ball.
From Twitter comes a photo of the Charm City cake, which is oh so very stars and stripes! NPR, ever the journalistic outfit, asked the insane baker, “And just what do stars and stripes taste like? ‘Freedom,’ Goldman responds.” Duh! Okay, really, it tastes like six layers of “red velvet, lemon poppy seed, pineapple coconut, pumpkin chocolate chip, and Swiss butter cream, decked with clusters of sparkly shooting star fireworks.”
Compared to some of Duff’s more Dreamatorium-inspired cakes, this one is downright restrained and classy — which, we suppose, is appropriate for a ball celebrating the United States Military. Behold its American splendor (and concept drawing, courtesy of Charm City Cakes) below:
