This Is The First Book That 38-Year-Old Jamie Oliver Has Ever Read

Jamie Oliver famously struggles with dyslexia, which gave him trouble in school but didn’t impede his rise to celebrity chefdom. Now, the man who has authored 20 books and runs a magazine has finally, at the age of 38, read his first book.

“I’m dyslexic and until recently I’d never got through a book,” he said this weekend at some unnamed event (good journalism, The Daily Mail). He said that reading often bored him due to his disability. “But I read Catching Fire [the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy]. I loved disappearing into a story.”

(Personal note: Good choice, Jamie! We, and we mean this absolutely sincerely, are huge Hunger Games fans. Ain’t nothin’ like a little dystopian socioeconomic commentary via futuristic love triangle to really suck you into a fantasy world. Also, #TeamPeeta.)

Prior to that, Oliver had attempted to finish Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential, but admitted that Bourdain eventually made fun of him too much for the book to be enjoyable. “So on principle I threw it on the fire,” he admitted. “He’s since apologised and we’ve made up. I should probably read the rest now.”

Let us quickly remind everyone of the joy of reading, and wish Jamie Oliver luck in his future book-reading endeavors, by listening to the Reading Rainbow theme on repeat. Reading is AWESOME and it’s the best and hooray reading!
