Jose Andres (And All His Celebrity Friends) To Teach At GWU

Is Jose Andres’s new job description going to include “professor”? So far, he’s already become Dean of Spanish Studies at the International Culinary Center, a guest lecturer at Harvard University, and a private culinary tutor to Hannibal Lecter. Now, he’s going to teach a full course at George Washington University.

According to the Huffington Post, the DC university announced that starting next year, Andres will teach a course entitled “The World on a Plate: How Food Shapes Civilization.”

“The weekly class is open to 230 students,” they write, “[and] topics will include the politics and history of food, hunger and obesity and food’s relationship with national security.”

But even cooler for 230 GW students? Much like his Harvard counterpart, Andres will bring in a bunch of friends to deliver guest lectures — not just policy officials in DC, but also cool people like Andrew Zimmern and Harold McGee.

And we can expect Andres to bring as much energy to this as he does to everything in his life. “Eating is the one thing, besides breathing, that we all do from the day we are born until the day we die,” he said in a statement. “Food is that thread that runs through the fabric of society: culture, energy, art, science, the economy, national security, the environment, health, politics and diplomacy.”

If only GW weren’t so expensive (and if only we were still undergrads.)
