Last Call: We Translate The Presidential Candidates’ Food Policy Platforms

Food Safety News: Every election cycle, the United Fresh Produce Association sends food safety questionnaires to the presidential candidates in the two major parties. This year, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney answered them. The obscenely short, context-ridding, non-holistic answers they gave: Obama was all “YAY FOOD SAFETY AND VEGGIES FOR EVERYONE” and Romney was all “THE FREE MARKET IS GOING TO SOLVE EVERYTHING”. (That’s why you should read the articles instead of our summaries.)

Ottawa Citizen: A judge found an Ottowa restaurateur guilty of criminal libel after she sent emails trashing a patron who wrote a bad review online to the patron’s bosses. She sent around a slew of emails saying the woman was transgendered, loved threesomes and group sex, etc, trashiness, etc, “call for a good time” prank gone horribly awry, etc. She even set up an (obviously disparaging) online dating profile in the woman’s name. Yelp reviewers, beware.

Eater: Speaking of! Another one of those dramatic Yelp review readings by a professional actor! Have you had enough of them yet?

Dinex Group: Daniel Boulud is moving DBGB Executive Chef Olivier Quignon to oversee Bar Boulud, while DBGB’s sous chef Eli Collins will be promoted to its executive chef. That Daniel, always watching out for everybody.

Chow: Here’s a little food porn for your Friday. Beloved Free Pie Wedneday-serving pie chain Baker’s Square has finally joined us in the land of bacon desserts with a bacon-and-salted-caramel pie. Rejoice, Middle America.
