Marcus Samuelsson Hosts Benefit Dinner For Harlem Explosion Victims
People in a significant radius (seven city blocks in this author’s case) felt the tremors of a gas line explosion at 116th Street and Park Avenue in Harlem two weeks ago, and now all that remains of the two residential buildings in the spot is a gaping hole in the middle of the block, where barricades, police officers, and other crews are still posted.
Marcus Samuelsson, fervid champion of Harlem, has stepped up to host the first restaurant fundraiser we’ve heard of to benefit victims of the explosion at Ginny’s Supper Club, Red Rooster Harlem’s speakeasy.
“In light of the tragic East Harlem explosion at 116th St. / Park Ave on the morning of March 12, 2014, we at Red Rooster Harlem are responding with assistance for our neighbors. To that end, on the evening of April 2, we are hosting a fundraiser to aid these families and individuals in their hour of need.
Hosted by Marcus Samuelsson and special guest performers, the evening will feature a cocktail party with live entertainment to celebrate the Harlem Community. Ticket proceeds will go directly to the victims of the collapse via American Red Cross in Greater NY: East Harlem Collapse Relief.”
You can purchase general admission tickets at $175 or VIP tickets at $350 here.
