The hit cooking show MasterChef has been mentioned in the media and it’s not for culinary competition. The series has hit headlines because of a few unfortunate situations involving it’s contestants.
Here are four former MasterChef contestants that have been linked to either a murder, death, crime or tragedy.
4. Ross Burden
On July 17, 2014 celebrity chef Ross Burden died at the age of 45. He was a finalist on MasterChef back in 1993. Burden was diagnosed with leukemia in July 2013, but had succumb to Legionnaires’ disease, which he contracted while receiving a bone marrow transplant a fews prior to his death.
3. Guy Yaakov
Guy Yaakov was arrested on October 21 for an alleged armed bank robbery that took place back in August. Just a few weeks before the robbery Yaakov appeared on the hit series MasterChef, where he stated, “I was a mischievous teenager, a troubled boy. I looked for mischief.”
Looks like the former MasterChef contest was still looking for trouble and found it. Unfortunately the armed robbery resulted in the killing of the bank’s security guard Yaniv Engler.
2. Josh Marks
Josh Marks was another former contestant on MasterChef, whose life also came to an end at a young age. In October 2013 Chicago police discovered Mark’s body in an alleyway with a gunshot wound to the head. It was later revealed that he committed suicide.
A few weeks prior to his death it was reported that the 26-year-old chef had a confrontation with authorities. He ran away from police and when he was caught Marks told officers that Gordon Ramsey possessed him and turned him into God.
There were no signs of drug use, but Marks did mention that he suffered from a bipolar disorder.
1. Stephen Port
The Stephen Port saga is the most recent Masterchef crime to be reported. Port allegedly killed four men over a 15 month period, but was just recently apprehended by authorities. He used the Grindr app to meet with the men then, drugged, abused and murdered the victims.
Port wasn’t a contestant, but he made an appearance on an episode that air in June, where he helped make spaghetti and meatballs for over 100 bus drivers! The 40-year-old went from chef to serial killer.
