Michelin has revealed its stars for France, and as always, some chefs fared well while others…not so much.
Elizabeth Auerbach of ElizabethOnFood has provided a complete analysis of who won and who lost. Here’s what we’re looking at:
Promoted & Demoted: Alain Ducasse
Alain Ducasse’s restaurant Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée has been promoted from two stars to three. The restaurant previously had three stars, but in 2015 was demoted to two. This year, it’s back. Le Meurice in Paris did not do so well. This year the restaurant lost its third star.
Promoted: Christian LeSquer
La Cinq was awarded its third star this year. LeSquer has been the executive chef there since 2014, and previously held three Michelin stars at Le Pavillon Ledoyen, which is in Paris.
Promoted & Demoted: Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay’s Gordon Ramsay au Trianon in Versailles has been demoted from two stars to one. His restaurant Le Pressoir d’Argent in Bordeaux, however got its first star this year. Ramsay expressed his gratitude and congratulated his staff at Le Pressoir d’Argent on Twitter, and made no mention of his loss:

Promoted & Demoted: Joël Robuchon
Robuchon’s restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Etoile lost its second star. Robuchon has reason to celebrate, however. His restaurant La Grande Maison in Bordeaux is in the Michelin guide for the first time, and got two stars.
Here’s a breakdown of the results overall
2016 3-Star Restaurants: 26. With promotions and demotions, the number remains the same
2016 2-Star Restaurants: 82, which includes 10 new entries, and three which made two-star debuts.
2016 1-Star Restaurants: 492, down from 503. There were 42 new entries this year, but 55 lost their 1-star status.
