Todd English’s Reality Show Has A Name And Will Air On E!
Like, for example, that it’s called Playing With Fire. Also, that Jennifer Esposito is on it? Because she’s a major player in the restaurant industry.
Yes, shiny new details have emerged on Todd English’s E! reality series, which features an ensemble cast of chef/restaurateurs/food celebrities in an awkwardly dated schmoozefest. It’s billed as a “sexy docu-soap,” but it sounds like a Kitchen Confidential-era New York reality show. Which is to say, a 15-year old reality show. Which strikes us as awkward.
Are we really still fascinated by “socialites” like Anna Boiardi, AKA, heir to the Chef Boyardee empire? What exactly is sexy and/or soapy about bland cookbook-shilling “Stiletto Chef”/Top Chef alum Candice Kumai? ESquared Hospitality Group Pastry Chef Julie Elkind is legit, but ex-model identical twin restaurateurs The Koch Brothers? Toy at the Gansevoort is hardly the heart of New York dining.
In any case, Playing with Fire is set to premiere April 2013, for a brief, six-episode-long season (we have that to look forward to, at least).
Oh, and actress Jennifer Esposito is there because she “lives with Celiac disease and has committed herself to advocating for those in her position and cooking Gluten-free food.” Super relevant to the high-powered NYC restaurant world.
Stay tuned! (Or just check back with us for the impending train wreck.)
