WATCH: Grant Achatz, Alinea Star in Restaurant Documentary, Spinning Plates

ICYMI, Grant Achatz is starring in a new documentary on restaurants, pitting his uber-fancy Alinea stop against an all-around family restaurant in Iowa, and a bootstrapping Mexican restaurant in Phoenix.

Now, the trailer has dropped for Spinning Plates, featuring Achatz’ near outrageous comments on food and art compared to the home cooking of restaurants Breitbach’s and La Cocina de Gabby. But it appears that viewers will not only see Achatz cook his seriously amazing dishes (where’s the Chocolate Piñata?) but also tackle his throat cancer and get praised by Thomas Keller. Because that’s how you do.

From the production company, The Film Arcade:

“Spinning Plates is a documentary about three extraordinary restaurants and the incredible people who make them what they are. A cutting-edge restaurant named the seventh-best in the world whose chef must battle a life-threatening obstacle to pursue his passion. A 150-year-old family restaurant still standing only because of the unbreakable bond with its community. A fledgling Mexican restaurant whose owners are risking everything just to survive and provide for their young daughter. Their unforgettable stories of family, legacy, passion and survival come together to reveal how meaningful food can be, and the power it has to connect us to one another.”

Check out the preview here; Spinning Plates opens October 25.
