Rene Redzepi And Daniel Patterson Saved A Bus At Cook It Raw: Poland
Cook It Raw, the annual foraging retreat for superchefs, must take place in a remote location due to the nature of the event: enter the woods, find the hidden lichen and ant bounty of nature, take it out of the woods, and use it to make a magnificent feast. Pretty straightforward.
But the event, which took place in the extremely remote Polish village of Suwałki was imperiled before it even began, and all because the bus driver was worried about his sweet ride. Ali Kurshat Altinsoy, director of the MAD Symposium on assignment from Eater, shared the dangerous moment:
Approaching Gościniec Jaczno — our Raw residence whilst away — our Polish driver stopped the bus and refused to go on. He was worried that if he continued along the undulating, narrow road to Jaczno that the small branches and leaves would scratch his bus. Practical people — as chefs are — several stepped out to repair the situation. René Redzepi and Daniel Patterson took it upon themselves to escort the convoy, trimming any renegade twigs that threatened our progress. We eventually reached our destination around seven that evening.
The rest of the article, as well as the dishes ultimately prepared by the superchefs, can be found here, though there’s no confirmation of whether Redzepi or Patterson kept any of the twigs to use in their final dishes.
