On a recent trip to Hawaii, Roy Choi and Christina Tosi became the children’s television hosts of every ’90s kid’s dream, and took Lucky Peach on a magical tour of the Aloha state for the upcoming Spring issue. The duo visited Stanley and Noriko Matsumoto, the owners of the North Shore’s legendary Matsumoto Shave Ice. So why does something that looks like a glorified slushie get so much love? Choi and Tosi (AKA the best fifth-grade social studies teachers ever) are about to find out.
