WATCH: Savannah Guthrie Cooks Dinner All By Herself on Today…With The Help Of Two Sous Chefs
Well, as we expected, the “Savannah’s Cooking School” series on The Today Show was pretty much a total (albeit well-crafted) joke. Today was the day Savannah Guthrie was supposedly set to cook a whole dinner for Al Roker, Matt Lauer, and Natalie Morales using the techniques and recipes Bobby Flay had been teaching her all week.
On the menu was penne pasta with the tomato sauce Bobby showed her, topped with roasted eggplant and ricotta; Spanish spice-rubbed chicken breast with carrots and leeks braised in the chicken stock Bobby taught her how to make; a salad with vinaigrette, and a jello mold for dessert. That was the order the courses were served in, which we probably would have rearranged ourselves, but we get it. No one wants to run out of cooking segment time only having demoed a salad.
However, The Today Show only gave Savannah 45 minutes to cook all those courses, so of course, she adopts two sous chefs to help her. Umm, not the point of cooking school! But, hey: what were we expecting from the woman who instructed the US Women’s Field Hockey Team to avoid Michelin-starred food?
Bonus: it’s totally satisfying to watch her try to serve four courses in three minutes.
