School District Refuses Federal Lunch Program Because ‘Students Will Not Choose the Food’

You read that right — students won’t choose school lunches, but not for the reasons you think. Not because school lunches are notoriously well, inedible. But because pizza and fast food reign all!

The Huffington Post reports that the Township High School District 214, located in suburban Chicago, will no longer receive federal funding that subsidizes free and reduced-lunches, estimated at about $900,000. The district’s reason: it will have to stop serving pizza and other unhealthy menu items in order to receive the funding. Said the district’s associate superintendent to CBS, “”What we saw based on those menus is that students simply will not choose the food.” Rightttttt.

So basically, the district is taking a “well fuck it” sort of attitude, believing that it can’t compete with junk food options surrounding the school. So why bother offering healthy food at the government’s cost? OH RIGHT, because the government helps cover the bill for free and reduced lunches:

The district said it will come up with their own healthy lunch menu options by working with their own nutritionist, the Tribune reports. The district will also still continue to offer free and reduced-priced meals to students who qualify, though it hasn’t yet revealed exactly how it plans to do that with the loss of federal funding.

So yeah, Obama, we’re not getting rid of PIZZA.

/sarcasm
