Tony Maws To Open Second Boston Restaurant, Near Julia Child’s Old House
Hooray for Boston: Tony Maws, the idiosyncratic chef known for Cambridge’s Craigie On Main (and recently profiled in the book Back Of The House) announced recently that he would open up a second restaurant in Somerville, MA. It happens to be right around the corner from Julia Child’s old house, too, which is the equivalent of living just around the corner from the White House in food terms: awesome location, but everyone keeps crowding around that other house all the time.
Unlike his other high-end restaurant, The Kirkland Tap & Trotter is supposed to be more casual, eliminating the “swooshes on the plates,” Maws said in a press release, according to The Daily Meal. At Kirkland, he’ll serve food “comfortable enough [for guests] to eat with their hands,” it’s “an ‘every night of the week’ kind of establishment, serving favorites you would find my friends and family gathered around on a Monday night.”
The ghost of Julia Child will be an ever-felt presence, hovering over the food and sharing an empathetic laugh whenever people drop their chickens by accident.
