Treme Finale: Desautel’s On The Avenue Hangs In The Balance
Warning: cliffhangers abound…
All season long, we’ve watched Chef Janette Desautel work through her reservations about going into big business with a high-profile restaurateur, and on last night’s Season 3 finale of Treme, the tension came to a head.
First, a marketing decision we’re all too familiar with: the dreaded brunch service. Tim wants to start serving brunch for the free money serving eggs at $28 a plate will bring in, while Janette refuses to kill her staff with a Sunday morning service while they’re still working out the kinks on dinner.
And remember how she wasn’t allowed to fire chefs without going through the proper HR channels?
Yeah, that didn’t end in a scolding at all…
And after this argument where it becomes clear that Janette has, in fact, sold her soul to the devil for a lease on St. Charles Avenue, Chef Desautel’s future seems bleak. And, because it’s HBO and David Simon, we’ll probably have to wait approximately three years for Season 4 to return. Sigh. Till next season, Mr. Bourdain. Cheers on a great run.
