WATCH: Edward Lee On How A Korean Kid From Brooklyn Ends Up A Southern Gentleman

It’s not the most expected of transformations, but Edward Lee, the James Beard nominee, reality show veteran, and chef/owner of Magnolia in Kentucky, had one of the most eclectic culinary educations and evolutions that we’ve seen on TV.

We’re sure he goes into pretty great detail about his personal and culinary arc in his new book Smoke and Pickles — a memoir-slash-cookbook which Eater calls “one of the best cookbooks of the year, despite its flaws,” saying “[it offers] a way of thinking about food in addition to being blueprints for actual meals.” But since the tome doesn’t come out until May 1, you’ll have to get a glimpse of Lee’s bonkers story in the teaser video right here:
