Months ago, we reported on a massive heist in Canada, where $20 million worth of maple syrup had been stolen from a manufacturer. Though the 10,000 barrels were eventually recovered and the thieves apprehended, The Daily Show’s Jason Jones smelled evidence of a grander conspiracy. A grander, stickier, woodsy conspiracy. His subsequent investigation of the maple syrup cartel — indeed, the lengths to which he went to tap this tree of intrigue and find its sweet, syrupy secrets — should win him a Pulitzer.
