WATCH: Parts Unknown Gives Us Confusing Feelings About Canada

Last night’s episode of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown was not so much a glimpse into the heart and soul of the Québécois – though he did explore the history of the Separatist movement — but rather, a gluttonous eating adventure wherein he binged with the Joe Beef guys and Martin Picard. It was not unlike a nightmare we had once (recurring).

Case in point: Dave McMillan and Frédéric Morin (the Joe Beef guys) travel with black truffles and foie gras and wine. Martin Picard (he of Au Pied de Cochon) cooks beaver in a sauce of its own blood, and operates a massive restaurant in the middle of a maple syrup farm called the Sugar Shack. We learned in the episode, that Canadians love eating maple syrup in the porniest ways, which, come on, is as stereotypical as Canadians losing their minds over hockey. But as hockey stereotypes are based on truth, so too are maple syrup stereotypes.

For proof, and to see all the Canadian things we loved/hated/need therapy for (hint: “Take a big one, and you have to suck it.”), check out this clip:
