WATCH: State Dinner Snafu Turns Stephen Colbert into France’s First Lady
The best part about the White House’s recent State Dinner honoring the President of France may not be the terrariums, cheap wine, or even Francois Hollande’s affairs — it might be White House Protocol accidentally turning Stephen Colbert into the First Lady of France.
(Maybe it wasn’t an accident.)
After Hollande announced his separation from longtime girlfriend and France’s First Lady Valerie Trierweiler (hint: he was doing someone else), American press spent hours speculating who would accompany Hollande to the dinner. Diplomatic protocol dictates that the First Ladies must sit together at State Dinners (probably to gossip about whatever the ambassador of the Netherlands is boning), and without a First Lady of France, who knows what would happen?!
Yesterday on The Colbert Report, the pundit answered: for a night, he became the First Lady of France. Check out how excited he became over the prospect of finally having the capacity to bring Jean Valjean to justice.
