What Happens When Mark Bittman And Sam Sifton Are Forced To Cook Together

Perhaps realizing that getting two erudite, cranky middle-aged men together in a kitchen would result in comedy gold, the New York Times Magazine gave Sam Sifton and Mark Bittman a task: cook a classy (but affordable) dinner for 15 people in one day…without killing each other.

The results, as expected, were hilarious in a Seinfeld-esque way — two grown men arguing about “dessert detail,”  messing around with lobsters, and feeding each other nuts. “Can’t we just watch football and get takeout?” Sifton kvetched at one point, legs crossed underneath a tasteful apron.

The entire article itself contains astute observations about the art of the large dinner party — for instance, did you know that they suggest buying a bottle of wine per person for these things? — but the video is possibly one of the most Statler and Waldorf-esque things we’ve seen in the food world. (Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert don’t count, simply because Eric Ripert is too nice.)
