Julia Child is the OG Celebrity Chef in every way. She gave the American people French cuisine with her cook book, and her TV show The French Chef which came out in 1963 is still on everyone’s minds. She’s been parodied on Saturday Night Live and inspired the Julie/Julia Project, which eventually led to Meryl Streep playing her in a hit movie.

And now, La Pitchoune, her home in Provence, has been purchased, as reported by Boston MagazineMakenna Johnston, an alumna of Smith College, which is also Child’s alma mater, will turn the home into a cooking and yoga retreat. “The focus is on cooking French food, for sure, and really, on the Julia Child way of cooking: The no-holds barred, ‘Look at that omelet!’ style of cooking,” Johnston told the magazine. She also wants to help people with their anxieties and fears about cooking, hoping that people will go home and cook more instead of going out to eat so often.

Johnston had always been interested in purchasing La Peetch (the houses’s nickname) but it was the November 2015 Paris attacks that gave her the extra push. “Julia Child was a total peacenik,” she told the magazine. “She worked for the government, and the best word from back then is she was very democratic. She was very involved in improving communities through food.”

While you can vacation at La Peetch starting in May, the culinary retreat program will not begin until 2017. Then, they’ll host weeklong sessions. They hope the home will inspire “culinary exploration, peace and community.”
